Privacy Policy On-Device AI

This Privacy Policy describes how Lokova ("we", "our", or "the app"), developed by Nexios DZ, handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

1. Data We Do NOT Collect

When using Lokova in its default Local AI mode, we do not collect, transmit, store, or process any of the following on external servers:

• Your chat messages, prompts, or AI-generated responses
• Uploaded documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, images)
• Voice recordings or transcribed audio
• Personal identifiers or behavioral data
• Device identifiers or location data

The AI model runs entirely on your smartphone's processor (CPU/NPU). Zero data leaves your device.

2. Data Stored Locally On Your Device

The following data is stored exclusively in your device's local storage (never on a cloud server):

• Chat History: All conversations are saved locally so you can access them later.
• App Preferences & Settings: Your theme, model selection, API keys, and other configuration options are saved locally using encrypted on-device storage.
• Downloaded AI Models: The AI model file (e.g., Gemma 4) is stored in your device's Downloads or Documents folder.

You retain full ownership and control of all this data at all times.

3. Cloud API Mode (Optional)

Lokova optionally supports connecting to third-party cloud AI providers (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini API, etc.). This feature is entirely opt-in and disabled by default.

If you choose to enable a cloud provider:

• Your messages and prompts will be sent to that third-party provider's servers according to their own privacy policy.
• Your API key for that provider is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to our servers.
• We have no access to the data exchanged between you and third-party AI providers.
• Please review the privacy policy of whichever third-party provider you choose to use.

4. Device Permissions

To provide its core functionality, Lokova may request the following Android permissions:

• Storage / Media Access: To allow you to attach files, PDFs, images, or import/export AI model files. No files are uploaded to external servers.
• Microphone: To allow you to record voice messages for AI transcription. All audio processing happens on-device. No audio recordings are ever transmitted or stored remotely.
• Internet: Required for optional cloud API mode and for downloading AI model files. The app is fully functional offline without this permission active.
• Notifications: To display background download progress for AI model files.

5. Crash Reporting (Firebase Crashlytics)

Lokova uses Firebase Crashlytics (by Google) to automatically collect anonymous crash reports when the app encounters an unexpected error. This helps us identify and fix bugs quickly.

Crash reports contain:

• The type and location of the crash in the code (stack trace)
• Device model, Android OS version, and app version
• A random, anonymized installation ID

Crash reports do NOT contain your chat messages, prompts, uploaded files, or any personal content. This data is processed by Google under their Firebase Privacy Policy.

6. Push Notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging)

Lokova uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver important app update notifications. FCM generates an anonymous device token that is used solely for delivering notifications. We do not associate this token with any personal identity.

7. Data Deletion

Because all personal data is stored locally on your device, you have full, immediate control over it:

• Delete Chat History: Use the "Clear Chat History" option in the Settings menu to permanently erase all saved conversations.
• Remove AI Models: Delete downloaded model files directly from your device's file manager.
• Full Deletion: Uninstalling the app permanently removes all locally stored app data, settings, and chat history from your device.

8. Children's Privacy

Lokova is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Given the nature of generative AI, we strongly recommend parental supervision for users under 18.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

10. Open Source Components

Lokova uses open-source AI frameworks including llama.cpp (MIT License) and Google LiteRT-LM (Apache 2.0 License) to run AI models on-device. The AI model Gemma 4 is provided by Google under the Apache 2.0 License. None of these components send your data to external servers in our default configuration.
